Abstract
Experimental solubilities are reported for anthracene dissolved in eig
ht binary mixtures containing (methyl I-butyl ether + I-propanol, or 2
-propanol, or I-butanol, or 2-butanol, or 2-methyl-1-propanol, or I-pe
ntanol, or 3-methyl-1-butanol, or l-octanol) at T = 298.15 K. Results
of these measurements are used to test two mathematical representation
s based upon the combined Nearly Ideal Binary Solvent (NIBS) and Redli
ch-Kister equation and Modified Wilson model. For the eight systems st
udied, both equations were found to provide an accurate mathematical r
epresentation of the experimental results, with an overall average abs
olute deviation between measured and calculated values being of the or
der of 0.5 per cent or less. (C) 1996 Academic Press Limited
