Bm. Mao et al., EXPERIMENTAL STRATEGIES FOR CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENTS OF I-T TRANSIENTSOF A SILVER SINGLE NUCLEUS ON CARBON MICROELECTRODES, Journal of electroanalytical chemistry [1992], 416(1-2), 1996, pp. 145-150
Potential step and in situ atomic force microscopy measurements were e
mployed to study the nucleation and subsequent behaviour of a silver s
ingle nucleus on carbon microelectrodes. It was shown that the precedi
ng electrodeposition process on the carbon microelectrode strongly aff
ects the subsequent nucleation and growth behaviour. A method of destr
oying or avoiding this historic effect of the substrate was developed.
It provides a new way of performing a large number of electrochemical
measurements without mechanical polishing and manual interference, an
d therefore facilitates further more detailed studies of a system whic
h requires continuous and automatic l-t transient measurements of stat
istical meaning. It was demonstrated that secure and automatic statist
ical measurements of l-t transients could be fulfilled utilising the m
ethod.
