Studies of double photoionization of atoms produced by single photon i
mpact have greatly improved our knowledge of electron correlation proc
esses. Such experimental studies have also revealed interesting phenom
ena to challenge theoreticians. This brief review will cover incident
photon energies in the range from about 40 to 254 eV. Some of the area
s that will be covered include autoionization of double excited neutra
l states into the double ionization continuum and threshold measuremen
ts ranging from the Wannier law to post-collision interactions.
