Recent experimental work on (e,2e) coincidences involving polarized el
ectrons is reviewed. The origin of the observed spin asymmetries are e
xchange effects, spin-orbit interaction of the continuum electrons, an
d spin-orbit coupling within the target in conjunction with orbital or
ientation and exchange. These mechanisms are explained in some detail.
Experimental and theoretical investigations of spin effects have been
performed for ionization of outer shell electrons as well as for ioni
zation of inner shell electrons.
