Out of extracts of different plant parts of six medicinal plants, extr
acts of stem and leaf of Cichorium intybus L., Clitoria ternatae L., l
eaf of Costus speciosus (Keen) Sm., Clerodendrum phlomidis I.f., Diosc
orea floribunda Mart. & Gal. and fruits of Lawsonia alba Lam. were eva
luated for their antiviral activity, the ethanol soluble fraction of L
. alba fruits displayed highly potent activity against semliki forest
virus (SFV) in swiss mice and chick embryo models exhibiting 100 to 65
percent activity after 10 to 25 days of virus challange.
