alpha-Oxophenylhydrazones 1, 9 and 18 reacted with enaminonitrile 4 to
yield pyridopyridine, pyridine and pyridopyridazine derivatives 3, 11
and 19 respectively, while hydrazone 18 reacted with enaminoester 21
to yield the pyridopyridine derivative 22; the activity of the methyl
function in 3, 11, 19 and 22 was tested by reaction with benzaldehyde
followed by cyclization to give the polycyclic compounds 7, 13, 20 and
24, respectively.
