High-spin states in Bi-198 were populated vis the Re-187 (O-16, 5n) re
action. A partial level scheme for Bi-198 was established for the firs
t time, including a 15(+) high-spin isomeric state with a measured hal
flife of 8.0+/-3.6 ns. By comparing the level structure of Bi-198 with
that of the even-even core Pb-198, the configuration eta(i(13/2))(-2)
eta(p(3/2))(-1)pi(k(g/2))(1) was ascribed to this isomeric state.
