This paper reports measurements of the densities and refractive indice
s of the ternary system methyl acetate+methanol+ethanol and the corres
ponding binary systems methyl acetate+methanol, methyl acetate+ethanol
, and methanol+ethanol at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. A vibrati
ng tube digital densimeter and a refractometer of synthetic sapphire p
rism (sodium D wavelengh) were used, the whole mole fraction range bei
ng covered. Excess molar volumes and deviations of the refractive indi
ces on mixing were determined. Polynomials have been fitted to the res
ults, the computed parameters being shown.
