Dj. Kalita et al., EFFECT OF CALCIUM AND PHOSPHORUS ON BODY-WEIGHT AND ENDOCRINE GLANDS OF BLACK BENGAL GOAT, Indian Journal of Animal Sciences, 66(11), 1996, pp. 1112-1116
Growth promoters like calcium and phosphorus independently and in comb
ination were administered intramuscularly @ 30 mg/kg body weight to re
cord the body-weight gain and histomorphological changes of the endocr
ine glands. Significantly higher growth was observed in Ca-P combinati
on group compared to all other groups. Treatment of calcium alone caus
ed significant body-weight gain as compared to control animals whereas
phosphorus alone did not produce significant effect on growth. Activa
tion of thyroid follicular cells, increase in size of TSH secreting ce
lls and clustering and hypertrophy of STH cells of the pituitary were
observed. Small sized internal parathyroid with degenerating chief cel
ls, increased number of light cells with lipid vacuoles and fewer numb
er of dark chief cells were observed.
