Abstract
In a brief review psychiatric aspects of head-injured patients are dis cussed. The topic is put into a historical perspective. Examples of re cent developments in head-trauma research are given. Differentiation b etween focal and diffuse brain injury is suggested to be of clinical r elevance. Little is known as yet about the neuropsychologic and psychi atric sequelae of diffuse axonal injury to the brain.
