Abstract
The dynamics of the two-mass model of the vocal fold oscillation is an alyzed. It is shown that the oscillation may occur around two equilibr ium positions, and that each case presents similar features as the che st and falsetto registers, suggesting a relation between them. The swi tch between equilibrium positions is caused by a transcritical bifurca tion phenomenon. (C) 1996 Acoustical Society of America.
