P. Casarino et al., THERMODYNAMICS OF POLYMER BLENDS BASED ON POLY(METHYL ACRYLATE) AND POLY(VINYL ACETATE) WITH DIFFERENT MOLECULAR-WEIGHTS, Macromolecular chemistry and physics, 197(11), 1996, pp. 3773-3782
In this work a study on thermodynamics of polymer blends, based on pol
y(methyl acrylate) (PMA) and poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc), was carried o
ut. Our foremost aim was to examine the molecular weight effect on pol
ymer compatibility. The results confirm our hypothesis: the interactio
n parameter, chi(12), varies abruptly in a very restricted molecular w
eight range. In this way, it can be concluded that molecular weight, a
s well as other parameters (i.e. lateral group hindrance, chain functi
onalization, composition temperature and so on), influences greatly po
lymer miscibility.
