The proposal for measurement of polarized gluon and quark distribution
s in the scattering of a polarized real gamma beam on a polarized nucl
ear target has been considered. A high energy gamma beam is obtained b
y backscattering of a laser beam off electrons from ring and linac typ
e accelerators. Requirements for lasers and design problems are discus
sed and some process examples are given.
