Ectomycorrhizae of Rhizopogon subcaerulescens on Tsuga heterophylla ar
e comprehensively described. The mantle surface is composed of ring-li
ke arranged hyphal bundles, which bear crystals, exude brown pigment d
rops, and are covered by crater-like surface structures. In dense laye
rs the hyphae are amyloid. In addition strongly amyloid foreign hyphae
of a species of Gomphidiaceae occur in inner mantle layers: these gro
w intercellularly and form amyloid haustoria.
