Abstract
The technical term Industrial Engineering (IE) was rarely known to Chi nese engineers and IE courses were seldom given in higher education un til late 70's. In recent years, IE has made considerable progress. Eme rging market economy provides an arena for industrial engineers to ful ly display their talents. IE certainly will get rapidly developed in t he near future.
