We have defined 402 bands in the haploid set of chromosomes in the vol
e Microtus transcaspicus by applying GTG banding to early metaphase ch
romosomes. An idiogram of the hi. transcaspicus chromosomes has been c
onstructed on the basis of a derailed study of chromosomes at differen
t levels of condensation. Nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) have been
localized to M. transcaspicus and M. subarvalis chromosomes by a comb
ination of Ag- and GTG-staining. The banded karyotypes of the two spec
ies were compared.
