P. Mabelly et al., INFLUENCE OF ELASTIC-DEFORMATION HETEROGE NEITIES ON THE BROADENING OF X-RAY-DIFFRACTION PEAKS, Journal de physique. IV, 6(C4), 1996, pp. 197-209
In the study of the diffraction peak broadening of massive polycrystal
line metals, the effect of strain heterogeneity among coherently diffr
acting domains has been often neglected in favour of the well known si
ze and distortion effects introduced by Warren and Averbach [1,2]. Thi
s study is aimed at weighting the effect of the strain heterogeneity b
y numerical calculation and experimentation. The use of micromechanica
l calculation introduced first by Kroner [3] and Hill [4] has led to t
he characterisation of the strain heterogeneity inside diffracting vol
ume. The strain effect has proved to play a major role in the diffract
ion peak broadening of the austenic stainless steel used for the exper
imental study (316Ti).
