The knowledge of the platinum environment on bimetallic catalysts Pt-S
n/Al2O3-Cl, when the catalyst is either oxidised or reduced, is necess
ary in order to explain the catalytical properties. EXAFS gives charac
teristics of platinum environment, even if the platinum content is low
er than 0.5%. In this work, Re have carried out a study by in situ EXA
FS of a reforming catalyst Pt-Sn/Al2O3-Cl. On one hand, on oxidised ca
talyst, we have evidenced the formation of [PtOxCly] oxide and the pro
ximity of platinum oxides and tin oxides. On the other hand, on reduce
d catalyst, in situ EXAFS has shown that 20% of platinum is engaged in
a PtSn alloy.
