THE SYSTEMIC MASTOCYTOSIS - A RARE REASON FOR CHRONIC VOMITING IN A CAT

The article presents the case of a cat with therapyresistant, chronic relapsing vomiting due to systemic mastocytosis. Predominating signs l ike splenomegaly, hepatomegaly, anemia and effusions into body cavitie s or coagulopathies were missing during the course of the disease. Mas tocytemia was only present after several weeks of vomiting and then a bone marrow analysis and - after euthanesia - a pathological examinati on confirmed the diagnosis. A short review of the reports in literatur e is given and the differences of systemic mastocytosis of dogs and ca ts are shown. The importance of the cytological bur, coat- und bone ma rrow examination for diagnosis is pointed out by the authors.
