We behavior of monomolecular and thin films of various linear polysilo
xanes such as polydimethyl-, polydiethyl-, polydipropyl-, and polyalky
lmethylsiloxanes were investigated using the measurements of the depen
dence of surface pressure on the reduced area per monomer unit of poly
mer. The influence of molecular mass, temperature, and pH of water on
the formation of thin and monomolecular Langmuir films was studied. Po
lysiloxanes with alkyl substituents, which are longer than one methyl
group, form thin films rather than the monomolecular layers.
