Abstract
A realistic extension of the electroweak model is proposed in which el
ectroweak magnetic monopoles and Z-strings appear as topological defec
ts. The ensuing cosmology is discussed and it is pointed out that elec
troweak strings and, more generally, light superconducting strings may
yield a significant flux of antiprotons in our galaxy.
