E. Kolb et al., INFLUENCE OF PARASCARIS-EQUORUM AND GASTR OPHILUS-INTESTINALIS ON LABORATORY PARAMETERS IN HORSES, Praktische Tierarzt, 77(11), 1996, pp. 999
In 8 young horses of the breed Thuringian cold blood (body weight 319
+/- 79 kg) and Haflinger (209 +/- 36 kg) often with strong infestation
by Parascaris equorum or and larvas of Gasterophilus intestinalis, co
ncentrations of total protein, protein fractions, cholesterol, alpha-a
mino-N, insulin, Na, K, Ca, Mg, inorganic phosphate, Fe, Cu, Zn, and e
nzymes (ALAT, ASAT, gamma-GT, LDH, AP) in the plasma as well as that o
f Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu and Zn in the erythrocytes were determined. Th
e levels of ascorbic acid in the liver, the adrenal cortex and the ren
al medulla were also measured. The influence of the parasitic infestat
ion on the mentioned parameters is discussed.
