A water-soluble cross-linking polymer of beta-CD with epichlorohydrin
was synthesized. The actions of polymer are different from beta-CD whe
n it reacts with the organic guests to form inclusion complexes. The m
ultiunits of beta-CD containing in the polymer possessed synergic effe
ct on different guest parts of organic molecules. In this paper the in
clusion reactions of polymer with a series of organic analytical reage
nts containing two guest groups have been studied in detail. The resul
ts showed that the polymer provided more specific effects and function
s than beta-CD on the enhancement of solubility, absorption and fluore
scence spectra. It is possible to be a new molecular recognition metho
d for certain organic compound containing two aromatic guest groups.
