We introduce a model of biological evolution inspired by the Bak and S
neppen (BS) model. Microscopic dynamical rules are modified with respe
ct to the BS model in order to account for predator-prey and competito
r correlations. We perform numerical simulations of the system and com
pare them with both a mean field equation and a mean field simulation.
The model is in a different universality class of self-organized crit
ical behavior than the Bak-Sneppen model, and in addition shows a nont
rivial fitness probability distribution.
