Abstract
The degree of approximation in L(p)-spaces by positive linear operator s is estimated in terms of the integral modulus of smoothness. It is s hown that the conjectured optimal degree of approximation is not attai ned in the class of Function shaving a second derivative belonging to L(p). (C) 1996 Academic Press, Inc.
