The mechanically activated and non-activated talc + Al(OH)(3) model sy
stems behave differently after thermal treatment because the arisen mi
crostructural changes significantly affect thermal reactions. Phase co
mpositions of the investigated model systems, fired at several selecte
d temperatures, show large differences. Alterations in the microstruct
ure are demonstrated using water vapour adsorption, conductometry, imb
ibometry and measurement of heat of dissolution. Mechanical activation
was performed in a corundum-lined planetary mill, the qualitative pha
se analyses by the help of XRD, and the thermoanalytical investigation
s by derivatography.
