Research findings published during the past year strongly implicated t
he role of sympathetic activity in mediating the relationship between
acute stressors and alteration of immune function. However, more confl
icting results were obtained regarding the potential mediating influen
ce of endocrine and serotonergic activity (eg cortisol) in the immune
response to depression, as well as for the general moderating role of
psychological factors (eg intrusion, personality traits and social sup
port).
