Abstract
The reaction between [Nb(OPri)(5)](2) and methacrylic acid [CH2C(CH3)C O2H=McOH], and subsequent controlled microhydrolysis, gave [Nb-4(mu-O) (4)(mu,eta(2)-Mc)(4)(OPri)(3)] which was characterized by X-ray diffra ction. The compound is based on a planar Nb4O4 core with terminal isop ropoxide ligands, while the functional carboxylates act as bridging ch elating ligands. The Nb-O bond lengths vary from 1.840(3) to 2.203(4) Angstrom and follow the order Nb-OR similar to Nb-O < Nb-O(Mc). The Nb -O-Nb angles are bent with values of 146.2(2) and 150.2(2)degrees, res pectively. The polymerization behaviour is discussed. Copyright (C) 19 96 Elsevier Science Ltd
