Taking into account electron exchange-correlation effects, a pairwise
interaction potential is obtained in a layered lattice with two-dimens
ional electron sheets. It exhibits an attraction between two like test
charges for some electron (hole) densities and amazing behaviors with
the change of the carrier density in a layer and along the direction
normal to it. Also, the asymptotic expressions of the potential are pr
esented. Its applications to a layered system, such as the Cu-O oxides
, superlattices and graphite intercalation compounds may lead to a sig
nificant understanding of some unusual behaviors of these materials.
