Vi. Davydenko et Aa. Kreiter, PRODUCTION OF PROBING SUBMICROSECOND HIGH-ENERGY NEUTRAL BEAMS BY MEANS OF A GRID MODULATOR, Plasma physics reports, 22(11), 1996, pp. 969-971
In order to implement a series of new plasma diagnostics in magnetic c
onfinement systems, high-energy probing neutral beams with a microseco
nd duration must be produced. The modulation of a plasma emitter of th
e ion source of the diagnostic injector by the grid electrode located
in front of the plasma electrode of the ion-optical system is studied.
Experiments have shown that satisfactory modulation parameters can be
achieved by applying a voltage pulse of similar to 50-100 V to the gr
id. In test experiments with an ion source having a modulator, a proto
n beam with a duration of 400 ns was obtained.
