Abstract
Acylation of 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) and its analogues, trypta mine and 5-metoxytryptamine, with arachidonic acid is described. It ha s been shown that the substituted amides synthesized inhibit oxidation of arachidonic acid by soybean 15-lipoxygenase and are not the substr ates of this enzyme. It has been found that serotoninamide of arachido nic acid irreversibly inactivates lipoxygenase by a two-step mechanism .
