Ae. Marsh et al., NEOSPOROSIS AS A CAUSE OF EQUINE PROTOZOAL MYELOENCEPHALITIS, Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 209(11), 1996, pp. 1907-1913
In addition to Sarcocystis neurona, Neospora organisms may be a causat
ive agent of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis. Closely related paras
ites, such as S neurona and Neospora sp, must be differentiated on the
basis of immunoblot analysis. Definitive diagnosis of the causative a
gent oi equine protozoal myeloencephalitis only can be made by means o
f postmortem immunohistochemical examination for determination of prot
ozoal parasites.
