Abstract
Sunflower mitochondrial DNA contains a single copy of the cob gene. Th e gene begins with the unusual CTC initiation codon and lies in a tran scription unit having a different organization with respect to that co mmon to the other six known sequences from plant species which include both monocotyledons and dicotyledons.
