Jm. Prignet et al., JAUNDICE AND RASH AS THE FIRST MANIFESTAT IONS OF ACQUIRED TOXOPLASMOSIS IN AN IMMUNOCOMPETENT ADULT, Annales de Gastroenterologie et d'Hepatologie, 32(4), 1996, pp. 171-172
Hepatitis due to toxoplasmosis is present in most patients with the co
ngenital form of the disease but is rare in adults in the absence of i
mmune deficiency. A case of acquired toxoplasmosis with cholestatic ja
undice and a rash as the first manifestations was seen in an immunocom
petent adult. The diagnosis was established on the basis of high level
s of specific antibodies and results of the 2-mercapto-ethanol test. T
he outcome was spontaneously favorable.
