Yields of pi(+)pi(-) atoms in the reaction pAl-->(pi(+)pi(-) atom)X at
energies of 24, 70, 450, and 1000 GeV and emission angles theta(lab)=
1 degrees, 2 degrees, 3 degrees, 4 degrees, 5 degrees, and 6 degrees a
re calculated from the inclusive cross sections for pi(+) and pi(-) pr
oduction. The yields of pi(+)pi(-) atoms are estimated for Be, Cu, Ag,
and Ta. The inclusive cross sections for pi(+) and pi(-) production a
re obtained within the Lund model of string fragmentation. The accurac
y of the calculation is estimated by comparing the yields of single pa
rticles as given by the Lund model and experimental data on the yields
in proton-nucleus interactions.
