S. Sarangapani et al., MATERIALS FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL CAPACITORS - THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL CONSTRAINTS, Journal of the Electrochemical Society, 143(11), 1996, pp. 3791-3799
Electrochemical capacitors, also called supercapacitors, are unique de
vices exhibiting 20 to 200 times greater capacitance than conventional
capacitors. The large capacitance exhibited by these systems has been
demonstrated to arise from a combination of the double-layer capacita
nce and pseudocapacitance associated with surface redox-type reactions
. The purpose of this review is to survey the published data of availa
ble electrode materials possessing high specific double-layer or pseud
ocapacitance and examine their reported performance data in relation t
o their theoretical expectations.
