An. Lasenby et al., THE TENERIFE OBSERVATIONS .2. AN OVERVIEW OF THE RESULTS AND FUTURE-PROSPECTS FOR GROUND-BASED CMB ASTRONOMY, Astrophysical letters & communications, 32(1-6), 1995, pp. 191-200
This contribution consists of a summary of the detection of structure
in the Tenerife data and examines the potential for future ground-base
d CMB observations. The Tenerife dec +40 degrees data is presented and
compared with the emission from known discrete radio sources. After c
orrection for the point source component, a likelihood analysis result
s in a multi-frequency detection of structure. The amplitude of the si
gnal is compared with the level of CMB anisotropy reported by other ex
periments and is also shown to be consistent with the previous 95% upp
er limits of Watson et al. (1992). In the light of these results, the
prospects for ground-based CMB observations are investigated. Referenc
e is made to the preliminary results from the Cambridge Cosmic Anisotr
opy Telescope and plans are described for the Very Small Array.
