Abstract
Based on a very high alcohol consumption in the population of Germany quotas from 10 to 20% of inpatients in general hospitals may be resume d by the literature, quotas partially caused by considerable somatic c omorbidity. In more recent studies from Luebeck, which are the most re presentative and valid at present available in Germany, 15.3% of medic al or surgical inpatients and 12.5% among general practice patients pr oved to be alcohol dependent.
