Pleuropulmonary blastoma, although rare, should be considered in the d
ifferential diagnosis of children who present with a pleural effusion
and symptoms of respiratory tract infection when the empyema fails to
respond to medical management. A case of a 2-year-old boy with this ra
pidly growing tumor is reported. The treatment and outcome of pleuropu
lmonary blastoma in children is reviewed. (C) 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
