A chemical reaction analysis of the selenization of copper indium laye
rs to form copper indium diselenide is presented Time-progressive sele
nization reactions were carried out in a laminar flow tabular reactor
in a dilate H2Se atmosphere at 400 degrees C. Copper, indium and coppe
r-indium thin films were reacted for 1-60 min. The reacted films are a
nalyzed by x-ray diffraction and atomic absorption spectrophotometry t
o identify the chemical speciespresent in the reacted films. A reactio
n network for film formation is proposed and data from time-progressiv
e selenizations were analyzed to obtain species composition profiles,
Rate expressions are postulated and a mathematical model for the selen
ization is developed. The behavior of the model is compared with the e
xperimentally determined species compositions to obtain specific react
ion rate constants.
