Abstract
This paper describes the early work directed to understanding fatigue crack growth behaviour and the seminal role played by Regis Pelloux, a t both the Boeing Aircraft Co and MIT, and other researchers in variou s parts of the world. From this beginning, fatigue life assessment pro cedures for engineering components and structures developed and still continues.
