Abstract
Chemical examination of an unidentified species of the genus Sinularia yielded Delta(9(15))-africanene 1, ethyl arachidonate 2, 24-methylene chloesterol 3, batyl alcohol 4 and a mixture of eicosyl, octadecyl and hexadecyl palmitates 5-7. The structures have been determined on the basis of physical and spectral data. The crude ethanolic extract shows antibacterial effect against E. coli, Bacillus pumilis, B. subtilis, B. megatherium, Proteus vulgaris, Staph. aureus and Salmonella typhi a t 500 mu g/mL concentration.
