Four enol-form binuclear copper complexes with different exogenous bri
dges, [Cu-2(L)(mu-Cl)] (1), [Cu,(2)(L)(mu-N-3)]. DMF (2), [Cu-2(L)(mu-
OCH3)] (3) and [Cu-2(L)(mu-C3H3N2)]. 1/2C(2)H(5)OH (4), where L is the
trivalence anion of binucleating ligand 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol d
i(benzoylhydrazone), have been synthesized and characterized. Crystal
data for complex (3) are as follows: space group P-1(-), a=0.829 4(1),
b=0.933 3(3), c=1.473 6(6) nm, alpha=79.51(3)degrees, beta=80.93(2)de
grees, gamma=81.32(2)degrees, Z=1. The magnetic measurements indicated
that the effect of exogenous bridging ligands on magnetic interaction
is corresponding to that in spectrochemical series. The effect of eno
l- and keto-form tautomer on magnetic interaction was explained from t
he point of view of structural factors and electron effects by using m
olecular mechanics and quantum chemistry calculations.
