Using a difference frequency spectrometer we have measured the widths,
shifts and line mixing parameters of many lines in the fundamental ba
nd of CO perturbed by N-2 at approximately 50 kPa and 301 K. The spect
ral resolution was 6 x 10(-5) cm(-1) and the typical signal to noise r
atio exceeded 2000. The spectral data are more extensive and more prec
ise than the data currently used in the HITRAN92 database. At the 1% l
evel we have reached the limit of accuracy with which a Lorentzian mod
el will represent the data. (C) 1997 Academic Press, Inc.
