The structural and magnetic behavior of the perovskite insulator La0.9
Ca0.1MnO3 were studied as a function of temperature from 15 to 300 K b
y neutron powder diffraction. Although this compound shows an anomalou
s response of the lattice parameters around T-c (150 K), the behavior
of the oxygen/manganese Debye-Waller factors is in clear contrast to i
ts ''colossal magnetoresistance'' (CMR) counterpart La0.65Ca0.35MnO3 W
e speculate that the difference is intimately associated with the meta
l-insulator transition in the latter compound. Copyright (C) 1996 Else
