The organic carbon total losses from West Siberian arable soils amount
to 1.2 x 10(9) tons during 50 years. They proved to be the highest fo
r meadow-chernozemic and meadow soils (10.2 kg C/m(2)) and the lowest
for chestnut soils (1.0 kg C/m(2)). Annual carbon tosses for the soil
cover of West Siberia have been assessed as 9.2 g/m(2), and this is cl
ose to the minimum estimate for the soil cover of the Earth (6.1 g/m(2
)), and is far from its maximum value -56 kg/m(2)/year.
