We report on a 66-gear-old patient with severe hypothermia (interior b
ody temperature 24,2 degrees C) who suffered from a severe cranio-cere
bral trauma and breathing associated with unconsciousness of several h
ours duration. After repeated resuscitations and continuous pre-, intr
a- and postoperative control and therapy of the vital functions we suc
ceeded in rewarming the patient by surface-rewarming, while there were
absolute contraindications for rewarming the patient by using the hea
rt-lung machine. The patient recovered very well. There was no neurolo
gical deficit caused by trauma or hypothermia. The combination of hypo
thermia and cranio-cerebral trauma is a very rare clinical picture in
our region.
