Abstract
In this work, a new capacitance measurement method for collecting the data used to estimate relative permittivity distributions is proposed. The proposed method involves measuring the capacitance between a pair of measurement electrodes using various combinations of supplementary electrodes. This method can be used to obtain many types of informati on in each measurement, which cannot be acquired using conventional ca pacitance measurement methods. We first estimate the position and rela tive permittivity of a small dielectric column in a homogeneous cylind rical air space, and then discuss the effectiveness of our new capacit ance measurement method. The great potential of this method is thus de monstrated.
