Abstract
Nine new oleanane-type saponins, polygalasaponins XXXIII-XLI, along wi th seven known saponins were isolated from the roots of Polygala falla x HEMSL. Polygalasaponins XXXIII-XLI were elucidated as 3-O-beta-D-glu copyranosyl presenegenin yranosyl-(1-->2)-(4-O-acetyl)-beta-D-fucopyra nosyl ester, 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl presenegenin actopyranosyl-(1-- >4)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->4) yranosyl-(1-->2)-(4-O-acetyl)-beta-D- fucopyranosyl ester, 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl presenegenin syl-(1-->2 )-(3,4-di-O-acetyl)-beta-D-fucopyranosyl ester, 3-O-beta-D-glucopyrano syl presenegenin ctopyranosyl-(1-->4)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->4)- os yl-(1-->2)-(3,4-di-O-acety)-beta-D-fucopyranosyl ester, eta-D-glucopyr anosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl presenegenin -D-xylopyranosyl-(1- ->4)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-( 1-->2)-(3-O-acetyl)-beta-D-fucopyranosy l ester, eta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl presenegen in yranosyl-(1-->2)-(4-O-acetyl)-beta-D-fucopyranosyl ester, 3 eta-D-g lucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl presenegenin 28-O-beta-D-x ylopyranosyl-(1--> ranosyl-(1-->3)]-(4-O-acetyl)-beta-D-fucopyranosyl ester, eta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl presenegenin syl-(1-->4)-[beta-D-apiofuranosyl-(1-->3)]-alpha-L syl-(1-->2)-(3,4-d i-O-acetyl)-beta-D-fucopyranosyl ester and eta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2 )-beta-D-glucopyranosyl presenegenin a-D-galactopyranosyl-(1-->4)-beta -D-xylopyranosyl- osyl(1-->2)-(3,4-di-O-acetyl)-beta-D-fucopyranosyl e ster, respectively, on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical evidenc e.
