An eight-year-old dog was presented to the hospital with clinical sign
s of ascites and jaundice, and a history of pyrexia, abdominal pain an
d vomiting. Ultrasonography and abdominocentesis were used to confirm
diagnosis of rupture of the extrahepatic biliary tract. Clostridium pe
rfringens was cultured from the gall bladder and a cholecystectomy was
performed. A successful outcome was achieved with early, aggressive m
edical and surgical treatment.
